Prof. Heike Tost is a Professor of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Heidelberg University's Mannheim Medical Faculty, affiliated with the Central Institute of Mental Health. Her research focuses on neural mechanisms of mental disorders, particularly schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and autism. She leads the Research Group 'Systems Neuroscience in Psychiatry' and investigates genetic/environmental risk factors, neural plasticity, and multimodal neuroimaging biomarkers.
Her current grants include leadership roles in DFG-funded projects such as TRR 379 (Neuropsychobiology of Aggression), CRC/TRR 265 (Drug Intake Control), and CRC 1158 (Heidelberg Pain Consortium). These projects explore topics like peripersonal space violations, early life stress in addiction, and pain processing mechanisms. She also leads subprojects analyzing brain connectivity dynamics, environmental influences, and stress-sensitization pathways.
Prof. Tost's work bridges clinical psychiatry with neuroscience, emphasizing translational research to develop biomarkers and interventions. Her team employs advanced neuroimaging and computational models to study brain network alterations and their implications for mental health resilience.
