Andreas Heinz

Prof. Andreas Heinz is a Senior Professor at the University of Tübingen and Director of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Charité University Hospital Berlin since 2002. He co-heads the Migration and Health Department and the AG Transkulturelle Psychiatrie. His academic roles include Karl-Jaspers-Gastprofessor at the University of Oldenburg (2014/15) and C3 Professor for Addiction Research at Heidelberg University (2000).

Educations: MD from Ruhr University Bochum (1988), Magister Artium in Philosophy (Free University Berlin/Ruhr University Bochum, 1994), and PhD in Philosophy (University of Potsdam, 2014). Trained in neurology, psychiatry, and anthropology, with habilitation in psychiatry (Free University Berlin, 1998).

Research focuses on transcultural psychiatry, addiction neurobiology, dopaminergic systems, and mental illness conceptualization. His work bridges clinical practice and anthropological perspectives, addressing migration health and cultural dimensions of mental health care.

Awards include academic honors for his doctorate and philosophical dissertation. He has held leadership roles in multiple clinics and research institutes, including founding the Neurological Specialist Clinic Feldberg/MV (2000).
