Maren Rössler is a Lecturer in Social and Cultural Anthropology and Islamic Studies at the University of Hamburg and Ruhr-University Bochum since November 2020. She has been a Research Fellow at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Hamburg, since 2014 and is currently pursuing her PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology (since 2016) with a focus on fertility decline and family planning in Oman.

Her research integrates anthropological demography, reproductive health, and migration studies, with a regional focus on the Arabian Gulf (Oman) and South Asia (India). She examines kinship structures, gender dynamics in fertility decisions, and the medicalization of reproductive practices.
Maren has conducted extensive fieldwork in Oman (2016–2017, 2015) and India (2012, 2010), supported by DAAD grants and STIP OUT funding. Her conference presentations highlight themes like marriage modernity, motherhood politics, and ethnographic methods in Islamicate societies.

She co-organizes workshops on Middle Eastern societies and contributes to academic discourse on demographic transitions and cultural negotiations in the Global South.
