Prof. Andreas Gürsching is a Professor of Music Theory at the University of the Arts Bremen since 1998. He holds a DAAD scholarship for composition studies under Alvin Lucier at Wesleyan University (1992–93), where he also engaged with Javanese Gamelan and ethnomusicology. His career includes compositional commissions from renowned ensembles and festivals, as well as radio productions and international performances. He has taught at multiple German music academies and currently leads courses in music theory, analysis, and ear training.
Education: Folkwang-Hochschule Essen (1984–91, Composition with Nicolaus A. Huber, Electronic Composition with Dirk Reith, Violin with Adolphe Mandeau, and Music Theory with Wolfgang Grandjean/Diether Torkewitz).
Research Interests: Focus on music theory, compositional aesthetics, and historical analysis of chamber music (e.g., string quartets from early periods to Beethoven). His writings appear in journals like Musiktheorie, Positionen, and New Music and Aesthetics in the 21st Century.
He has received unspecified awards and fellowships for his compositional works. As a violinist, he performed with new music ensembles from 1987–1993.
