Andreas Freitag

Andreas Freitag is a clarinet teacher at the University of Music Würzburg and a professional clarinetist. He has been a permanent member of the Meiningen Court Orchestra as principal bass clarinettist and deputy principal clarinettist since the 2016/2017 season. Additionally, he regularly assists in orchestras including the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, Philharmonic Orchestra Erfurt, and Staatskapelle Weimar.

His education:

• Junior studies with Prof. Manfred Lindner at Folkwang University of the Arts Essen (2007-2010)
• Bachelor of Music in Clarinet at University of Music Würzburg (2010-2015)
• Master of Music in Clarinet at University of Music Würzburg (2015-2018)

Freitag specializes in clarinet and bass clarinet performance within orchestral contexts. His career spans youth orchestras to professional ensembles, with expertise in classical repertoire and cross-cultural projects. He teaches clarinet and saxophone with emphasis on technical mastery and ensemble collaboration across multiple institutions.

Awards:

• Multiple 1st prizes in "Jugend musiziert" at regional, state, and national levels (1999-2007)
• Finalist, Karel Kunc Competition (2003)
• 1st prize, soloist competition of MS Bochum (2007)

Teaching roles include Dörzbach Music Association (2014-2015), Schmalkalden Music School (2017-2019), Famberg-Musikanten eV (2018-2021), and Meiningen Music School (since 2018). Since 2020, he serves as lecturer for the woodwind department of the University Orchestra Erlangen. He is a permanent member of the Arab-German music collective "Syiab", performing contemporary arrangements of Arabic music.
