Andrea Stanton is a Professor of Islamic Studies and Digital Religion, and Senior Associate Dean at the University of Denver's College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Middle Eastern History from Columbia University and a BA in History and Religion from Williams College. Her research focuses on intersections of media, politics, and identity in the Middle East, with special attention to digital Islam and Mandate Palestine history. Stanton teaches courses on Islamic studies and engages in public outreach through lectures and media commentary. She is affiliated with the Josef Korbel School of International Studies and the Sie-Cheou Kang Center for International Security & Diplomacy.
Her research explores how media shapes national identities and religious practices, including studies on Syrian public diplomacy via Instagram and the role of technology in Hajj management. Stanton's work bridges historical analysis and contemporary digital practices, emphasizing gender dynamics and state narratives in conflict zones.
Her publications span journals like Place Branding and Public Diplomacy and Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies, with recent focus on digital religion’s impact on Islamic communities. Stanton contributes to academic organizations such as the American Academy of Religion and the Middle East Studies Association.
