Andrea Serna Castano is a Researcher at the Institute for Policy Research (IPR) and the Department for Health's Centre for 21st Century Public Health, University of Bath, actively contributing to health economics and public health research through major funded projects.
Her research focuses on Health Economics, Public Health, Environmental Health, Health Policy, and Health Equity, with emphasis on evaluating health impacts of environmental policies like Low Emission Zones and commercial determinants of health, particularly through equity-focused frameworks.
Her recent work demonstrates how Low Emission Zone schemes in England improve air quality and both physical/mental health outcomes, highlighting the critical link between environmental interventions and population health.
She serves as Researcher Co-Investigator on the MRC-funded "Active Health Hub: Systems Approaches to Commercial Determinants of Health and Equity" project (2024-2028), examining corporate influences on health disparities through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Within the University of Bath, she collaborates across the Institute for Policy Research and Centre for 21st Century Public Health, engaging with teams addressing 21st-century public health challenges through systems thinking and policy evaluation.
