They serve as Director of the Feminist Technocultures Lab, housed in the Bellisario College of Communications and College of the Liberal Arts. Miller holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies (with a Science and Technology Studies emphasis) from the University of California, Davis, and a Master’s in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Georgia State University.
Miller’s research examines intersections of technology, security, and empire through transnational feminist and postcolonial frameworks. Key areas include drone warfare, predictive policing, biometric surveillance, counterterrorism policy, and racialized/gendered logics of security. Their current book project investigates the ‘cyber ecosystem’ concept’s role in US security governance, tracing its evolution from Cold War-era defense projects to contemporary cybersecurity markets in the Southeastern US.
Publications span journals such as Public Culture, Antipode, and Small Wars & Insurgencies, with a focus on technology’s socio-political impacts. Miller co-edits Big Data & Society and has contributed to special issues exploring computational environments and surveillance technologies. Their work bridges academic research with ethical critiques of tech-driven security practices.
Lab affiliations include the Feminist Technocultures Lab, which fosters interdisciplinary inquiry into technology’s cultural and political dimensions. Miller’s teaching integrates critical theory with contemporary case studies on digital culture and surveillance.
