Sarah Miller is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at Boston University. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research focuses on gender, sexuality, youth development, digital cultures, and education policy, with a particular emphasis on intersectional inequalities and their impact on young people’s experiences.
Her current book project, The Tolerance Generation: Growing Up Online in an Anti-Bullying Era, examines how digital cultures and anti-bullying initiatives shape youth experiences. She is also researching the gendered and racialized dimensions of school shooting threats and their consequences for K-12 education. Her work has been published in journals like Gender & Society and Sexualities, and funded by the National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation, National Science Foundation, and the American Sociological Association.
As a public sociologist, Miller collaborates with organizations such as the Public Engagement Project and Advocates for Youth to advance adolescent health and sexuality education policies. She teaches courses on gender, sexualities, race, criminology, and feminist methodologies.
