معرفی
Andrea Jonsson is an Associate Professor in the School of Modern Languages at the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, Georgia Institute of Technology. She also serves as Director of the French Program and Faculty Development Mentor. Her work bridges voice studies, performance, gender, and affect theory with interdisciplinary approaches to French literature and culture. She holds a PhD in French from the University of Pittsburgh (2014) and a Bachelor of Music from McGill University.
Dr. Jonsson’s research focuses on women’s voices challenging linguistic and cultural hegemonies, especially in contemporary French media, music, and performance. Key interests include slam poetry’s geopoetic textuality, vocal expressions of vulnerability in music spanning Jacques Brel to modern artists like Stromae, and feminist reinterpretations of maternal identity and humor in graphic narratives. Her current book project, Amplified Intimacy: Voicing French Feminisms in Contemporary Pop Culture, explores how women redefine male-dominated soundscapes through vocal intimacy in music, comedy, and immersive media.
- Young-Girls in Echoland (2021): Co-authored analysis of performative responses to Tiqqun’s political pamphlet.
- Interdisciplinary courses link popular culture to critical theory, emphasizing student-led research and debate.
Her scientific awards include the 2016 Humanities Center Fellowship, which supported her research on musico-cultural vulnerability analysis. Teaching accolades highlight her innovative pedagogy connecting theory and practice.
In advising and grants, she has mentored students through courses like FREN 4500/6500 Intercultural Seminar and FREN 3121 Advanced Composition. Her research methodologies integrate musicology, literature, and media studies to explore voice’s role in cultural critique.
Labs/Teams: Her interdisciplinary approach involves collaborations across disciplines, particularly in feminist cultural analysis and performance studies. The book project reflects ongoing work with Liverpool University Press.
