Keenan Burton is the Laurel Nesholm Endowed Assistant Professor of French in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Western Washington University, part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research focuses on 18th- and 19th-century French literature, culture, and performance, with particular interests in queer and trans studies, opera studies, gender and sexuality studies, theories of sound and voice, and performance studies. He currently teaches courses such as Intermediate French and advanced literature seminars.
His current research project, Queer Voices: Opera, Literature, and the Performing Body, explores gendered performance as a conduit for subversive queer expressions in 19th-century France. Burton holds office hours in Miller Hall 218C on Mondays at 4:00–5:00 PM and Wednesdays at 10:00–11:00 AM.

As an educator, Burton designs courses that bridge historical literary analysis with contemporary cultural discourse. His teaching responsibilities for AY 2024–2025 include FREN 201, 202, 203, and advanced seminars like FREN 341 and 385.
