Andrea Fitzroy is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Health Equity at Emory University's Center for the Study of Human Health. With a PhD in Sociology from Georgia State University specializing in gender and sexuality, her research examines intimacy, social relationships, and care dynamics in older adulthood, particularly within assisted living contexts.
Research focuses include:
- Intimacy and social connection in later life
- Care relationship dynamics in institutional settings
- Self-care capacity in assisted living facilities
- Health communication strategies for aging populations
Publications frequently employ qualitative methods to analyze care networks and relationship structures in long-term care settings. Recent work advances understanding of non-traditional intimacy forms among older adults and communicative competence in responding to health changes. Methodological approaches include longitudinal qualitative designs and focus groups examining caregivers' roles.
