Regine Haardoerfer is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences at Emory University. She specializes in advanced statistical methodologies applied to behavioral and public health research. Since 2010, she has led data analysis for major projects at the Emory Prevention Research Center, including randomized controlled trials on tobacco control (e.g., Smoke-Free Homes program) and obesity prevention. Her work emphasizes longitudinal data analysis, particularly in diverse populations like rural communities and college students.
Education:
- PhD, Georgia State University
- MEd, Western Governors University
- MS, State of Bavaria, Germany
- BS, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg
Her research focuses on statistical modeling to address health disparities, community-based interventions, and tobacco use prevention. She designs curricula for advanced statistical methods courses (e.g., BSHE 728, 730, 732) and trains MPH/PhD students in Emory’s BSHE program. Globally, she conducts workshops in South Africa and Brazil to build statistical capacity in low-resource settings. She serves as inaugural Associate Editor for Statistics for Health Education and Behavior since 2015.
Key research themes include rural health equity, poly-tobacco use patterns among college students, and pediatric cancer survivorship care. Recent studies examine Medicaid policy impacts on substance use treatment access and the role of social capital in healthy behaviors. Her NIH-funded R01 project investigates longitudinal tobacco use trends in youth, combining nested data structures with innovative analytic techniques.
Her work spans over 150 peer-reviewed publications (as listed), addressing topics from sleep health disparities to opioid policy analysis. Collaborations include international coalitions in Armenia/Georgia on smoke-free policies and US-based initiatives like the Two Georgias health equity project. Grant funding supports translational research linking statistical rigor to real-world health interventions.
