Andrea Berlin is the James R. Wiseman Chair in Classical Archaeology and Professor of Archaeology and Religion at Boston University. She serves as Interim Archaeology Program Director. Her career focuses on the archaeology of the Achaemenid Persian, Hellenistic, and Roman periods in the eastern Mediterranean, emphasizing daily life and political-cultural intersections. She co-founded the Levantine Ceramics Project, an open-access pottery database.
Education: Ph.D., University of Michigan (1988). Awards include the AIA Gold Medal (2025), P.E. MacAllister Field Archaeology Award (2021), and AIA Excellence in Teaching (2009). She excavated at sites like Tel Kedesh (1997–2012), Sardis, and Coptos, co-editing major publications on these projects.
Research highlights include analysis of Persian-period sealings, Phoenician cedar oil, and Herodian architecture. Her work bridges archaeology with history, exploring how material culture reflects identity and change in antiquity.
