Professor Anders Dalsgaard is a faculty member at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. With over 30 years of experience, he specializes in Veterinary Public Health with a focus on One Health approaches to infectious diseases. His research examines pathogen transmission dynamics, antimicrobial resistance, and zoonotic disease ecology, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Education includes:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (1991)
- Ph.D. in Microbiology and Epidemiology, Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (1995)
Research interests center on:
- Transmission pathways of zoonotic pathogens at human-animal-environment interfaces
- Antimicrobial resistance evolution and dissemination in agricultural/aquatic systems
- Environmental persistence of enteric pathogens in water and waste systems
- Capacity building for food safety systems in developing regions
- Climate impacts on infectious disease epidemiology
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, molecular epidemiology of zoonotic pathogens, and environmental health interventions. Recent work shows increased attention to aquaculture health systems and pandemic-related biocontainment strategies.
Supervision includes mentorship of >20 PhD students, primarily from LMICs, through large-scale capacity building projects in Southeast Asia and Africa. Leads international research consortia including the I-CRECT initiative for AMR mitigation.
