Anasa Hicks is an Associate Professor of History at Florida State University's College of Arts and Sciences, specializing in Latin American and Caribbean history with a focus on twentieth-century Cuba. Her research examines intersections of race, gender, and labor dynamics, particularly through her book project Hierarchies at Home: A History of Domestic Service in Cuba from Abolition to Revolution. This work critically analyzes how Cuban societal perceptions of domestic workers shaped their lived experiences from the post-slavery era through the 1959 Revolution.
Her primary research interests include labor hierarchies, gender roles in post-colonial societies, and the legacy of slavery in Caribbean domestic work. Dr. Hicks has presented her findings at major conferences including the Association of Caribbean Historians and Latin American Studies Association meetings.
