Ana Maria Vargas Falla is a Senior Lecturer at the Sociology of Law Department, Lund University, specializing in the intersection of law, climate adaptation, and social justice. She serves as Director of First and Second Cycle Studies and leads the LU Profile Area: Nature-Based Future Solutions. Her research investigates legal pluralism, informal economies, and everyday forms of resistance in informal settlements.
Her work includes the FORMAS-funded ICARUS project (2023-2025) on cross-scale climate adaptation, a VR project on inclusive urbanization in Tanzania and Uganda (2021-2023), and contributions to the DEFEND-BIO initiative on biosphere defenders. She actively bridges academic research and policy through labs, policy briefs, and video-based communication tools.
Recent publications focus on legal pluralism in climate adaptation, public acceptance of climate policies, and conflict dynamics in Colombia. Her research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for environmental sustainability, justice, and inclusive governance.
