Ana Margarida Amaral is a Researcher and Technological Core Facility Manager at the Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CCMAR) at the University of Algarve (Faro, Portugal). She serves as a CCMAR Liaison Officer and Access Officer at EMBRC.PT, managing transnational infrastructure for high-profile European projects, including AQUAEXCEL3.0, AQUASERV, ISIDORe, and EuroMarine. Her work focuses on advancing sustainable aquaculture, fisheries, and blue economy initiatives through infrastructure coordination and ecohydrology applications.
Dr. Amaral holds a PhD in Marine Biology (2009) from the University of Santiago de Compostela, specializing in ecology, aquaculture, and environmental impacts. Her research interests include molecular and physiological responses of marine organisms to environmental stressors, transmissible diseases in bivalves, and the ecological dynamics of coastal ecosystems. She has contributed to projects like the Guadiana estuary sustainability study and has explored biomarkers (e.g., RNA/DNA ratios) to assess human-induced stresses on marine species.
Her involvement in infrastructure management highlights expertise in service provision and quality control for marine research. While no scientific awards are explicitly listed, her leadership in European collaborative projects underscores her significant contributions to marine science. She is also a member of the Scientific Council at CCMAR and actively engages in outreach, such as exhibitions on ocean health and educational seminars.
