Xin Yin (Amy) is an Assistant Professor of Percussion in the School of Music at Western Carolina University, part of the College of Fine and Performing Arts. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a Master of Music (MM) from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Music (BM) from Baylor University. Previously, she served as a teaching assistant at UNCG, where she contributed to the Percussion Studio and co-directed the percussion ensemble for their 2021 PASIC showcase. She is an elected member of the Percussive Arts Society International Committee and proudly endorsed by Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets.

Amy Xin Yin’s research and creative activities focus on percussion performance and pedagogy, with an emphasis on ensemble direction and contemporary music. Additionally, she is dedicated to advancing instrumental music education and performance studies through scholarly contributions and participation in international conferences such as the Percussive Arts Society’s International Convention and the International Saxophone Symposium.
Awards: She has been honored as a Minerva Scholar, the highest recognition for doctoral students, and was nominated for the 2023 Outstanding Graduate Teaching Associate award at UNC-Greensboro.
Advising & Grants: Amy has advised and directed percussion ensembles, including her role as Interim Associate Director of the Percussion Studio at UNCG during Spring 2022.
