Dr. Amy Simpson is an Adjunct Professor at West Virginia University, teaching Piano Literature and serving as an instructor for the WVU Community Music Program. She holds a DMA in Piano Performance from West Virginia University, an M.M. from Carnegie Mellon University, and undergraduate degrees in Piano Performance and Mathematics/Computer Science from Seton Hill University and Westminster College. Her research focuses on music perception, practice, and memorization, which she presents nationally to practicing musicians.

Her research emphasizes bridging academic findings with practical musicianship. She has performed extensively, including Beethoven’s Fifth Piano Concerto with the Edgewood Symphony and Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements with the WVU Orchestra. She also collaborated with tubist Philip VanOuse and has taught music history at CCAC. Dr. Simpson’s work includes composing and arranging worship music, notably for the 2012 PCUSA General Assembly in Pittsburgh.

She has served as a staff accompanist at multiple universities and performed in chamber ensembles like Symphony East and Trombino Piano Gallerie. Her community involvement includes over 30 years as a church pianist and director of music programs at Presbyterian churches. She resides in Murrysville, PA, with her husband, an engineer and clarinetist, and has two adult sons.
