Amy Russell is an Associate Professor of History and Classics at Brown University, holding dual affiliations in both departments. Her research focuses on Roman political and cultural history, particularly architecture, urbanism, and spatial dynamics. She is currently working on a monograph about the imperial Senate’s building activities and a project on German-Anglophone scholarship interactions. Russell’s work bridges interdisciplinary methods, collaborating with political scientists and legal scholars on the concept of 'peoplehood.' She holds a PhD from UC Berkeley and previously served as chair of the Women’s Classical Committee UK. Her awards include the 2017 C.J. Goodwin Award and the 2018 Philip Leverhulme Prize.

Research Interests: Her work examines the interplay between political power and physical space in Rome, including studies of the Forum Romanum, the Senate’s role, and the spatial turn in Roman studies. Recent projects include an edited volume on Roman spatial studies and a forthcoming monograph on the populus Romanus. She employs theoretical frameworks from institutional theory and feminist studies to analyze ancient texts and material culture.
