Henrik Gerding is a Professor of Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History, Lund University. Since January 2024, he has served as Head of Department (Prefect). His academic journey includes a PhD in 2002 (Lund University), postdoctoral work at Royal Holloway College (London), and roles as Assistant Professor and Director of Studies in Uppsala, where he earned his docentship in 2008.
- Current research focuses on Greek and Roman architecture, ancient building technology, fired brick diffusion, and the Republican Forum Romanum.
- Key projects include the Hellenistic Rational Design (Pharos), Forum Romanum, and ancient shipsheds (Leverhulme-funded). Collaborations with physicist Per Östborn on network analysis for innovation diffusion are notable.
Research Outputs: Recent work spans 3D modeling, spatial analysis, and network methodologies applied to Mediterranean archaeology, with emphasis on urban spaces (Forum Romanum) and material culture (fired bricks).
