Amy Rosenzweig is the Weinberg Family Distinguished Professor of Life Sciences in Northwestern University's Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, with appointments in both the Department of Molecular Biosciences and the Department of Chemistry. She serves as Director of the Keck Biophysics Facility and is affiliated with the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute (CLP).
Professor Rosenzweig earned her B.S. from Amherst College in 1988 and her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1994. Her research focuses on understanding metalloprotein function at the molecular level, with particular emphasis on biological methane oxidation, oxygen activation by metalloenzymes, metal uptake and transport, and natural products biosynthesis. Her laboratory employs structural, spectroscopic, biochemical, genetic, and bioinformatic approaches to investigate problems at the forefront of bioinorganic chemistry.
Rosenzweig's recent work has centered on particulate methane monooxygenase (pMMO), with groundbreaking research revealing the enzyme's atomic structure within its native lipid environment. Her research has transformed understanding of copper-based catalysis in methane oxidation, with implications for developing biotechnological applications to convert methane—a potent greenhouse gas—into usable fuel. Her laboratory consistently publishes high-impact research in top journals including Science, Nature, and PNAS.

Her work is supported by multiple National Institutes of Health grants, reflecting the significance of her contributions to understanding metalloenzymes critical for environmental and biomedical applications.
