University of Illinois Urbana-Champaignمعرفی
Anastasia C. Manesis is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Illinois, affiliated with the Carl Woese Institute for Genomic Biology. She leads the Manesis Lab, a bioinorganic chemistry group specializing in structural and mechanistic studies of metalloenzymes. Her work focuses on identifying novel metallocofactors in microbial systems, leveraging bioinformatics and advanced spectroscopic techniques.
- Education: B.S. Biochemistry & B.A. Asian Studies (Northeastern University, 2013), Ph.D. Biochemistry (Ohio State University, 2018)
- Postdoc: Simons Foundation Fellow at Northwestern University (2020-2023)
Research interests include microbial metabolisms, oxidative stress responses, and the evolution of metalloenzyme chemistry. Techniques used in her lab span protein expression, EPR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, and computational methods like DFT.
- Awards: Simons Foundation Fellowship (2020-2023), McBride Trainee Award (2020)
Teaching: Chem312 (Inorganic Chemistry) and Chem518 (Bioinorganic Chemistry). The lab actively promotes diversity through initiatives like equitable resource access and community outreach.
