Amy Laura Cahn is a part-time Lecturer in the Department of Urban & Environmental Policy & Planning at Tufts University and a Visiting Professor and Director of the Environmental Justice Clinic at Vermont Law School. She holds a B.A. (summa cum laude) from Hunter College (2004) and a J.D. (magna cum laude) from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (2009).
Her research and practice focus on confronting racial segregation, neighborhood disinvestment, and environmental/climate risks through movement lawyering. She collaborates with communities to advance self-determination, particularly in frontline communities like Eastwick. Her work integrates legal advocacy, urban agriculture initiatives, and climate justice frameworks.
Professionally, she has served as Senior Attorney and Interim Director at the Conservation Law Foundation, launched a community lawyering program, and directed the Garden Justice Legal Initiative (nation’s first urban agriculture law clinic). She clerked for federal and state courts and sits on boards including the Penn Law Alumni Advisory Board and Alternatives for Community and Environment’s Legal Advisory Board.
She is a co-founder of Bluestockings Bookstore and part of the national Just Transition Lawyering Institute team. Her legal and academic contributions bridge policy, advocacy, and grassroots organizing.
