Lynn D. Lu is an Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Economic Justice Project at The City University of New York School of Law. She teaches first-year Lawyering and focuses on economic justice, criminal justice reform, and public policy advocacy. Prior to CUNY, she held roles at NYU School of Law, including Acting Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Lawyering, and worked as a Staff Attorney at the National Center for Law and Economic Justice.
- Education: J.D. magna cum laude from NYU School of Law; M.A. in English Literature/Critical Theory from Sussex University; B.A. summa cum laude in Women’s Studies from Harvard/Radcliffe Colleges.
Her research addresses systemic inequities in welfare policy, criminal justice, and tax law. Recent work critiques legal frameworks perpetuating racial disparities and explores universal basic income and job guarantees as anti-poverty tools. She has published in the CUNY Law Review, South Carolina Law Review, and Pittsburgh Tax Review.
- Awards: Arthur Garfield Hays Civil Liberties Fellow (NYU), Katz Fellow (Brennan Center), and academic honors for scholarly excellence.
Lynn previously served as a Managing Law Clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals and worked in publishing before her legal career. She co-directs initiatives promoting economic justice and has contributed to policy advocacy on child welfare reform and access to public benefits.
