Amy Holmes-Tagchungdarpa is a Professor in Religious Studies & Asian Studies at Occidental College. She specializes in Buddhism across Tibet, the East and South Asian Himalayas, and its global diaspora, with research intersecting cultural history, gender, media, and anthropology. Her teaching integrates insights from living Buddhist communities to enrich scholarly and popular representations.
- Education: B.A. from Victoria University of Wellington; Ph.D. from Australian National University.
Her current book project examines Buddhist objects like prayer flags and mandalas as active agents within ecological, economic, and religious material worlds, drawing on historical texts and ethnographic fieldwork in Tibetan areas of China, Bhutan, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nepal, and Ladakh. Los Angeles' diverse Buddhist communities deeply inform her research and pedagogy, providing tangible connections to lived religious practices.
