Laura Hebert is a Professor in the Department of Diplomacy and World Affairs at Occidental College. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Denver and has been affiliated with the institution since 2005.

Her research focuses on gender, human rights, international law, and international organizations, with geographic emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. She explores themes like gender-based violence, human trafficking, and gender dynamics in security and peacekeeping contexts.
Hebert’s recent work examines anti-trafficking funding discourses, UN/NATO responses to sexual misconduct, and gender reform in post-conflict Rwanda. Her 2022 book Gender & Human Rights in a Global, Mobile Era investigates feminist debates through the lens of human trafficking using intersectional feminist cosmopolitanism.
She teaches courses including International Organizations, Human Rights, and Gender & International Relations, and serves as co-chair of Oxy’s Kahane United Nations Program Advisory Committee while being affiliated with the Gender, Women, & Sexuality Studies minor.
