Dr. Amy Healy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Limerick, Ireland. Her research focuses on social exclusion, with expertise in food poverty, work precarity, and human trafficking on the island of Ireland. She holds a PhD (2012) and multiple advanced degrees including a Masters in Sociology (2005) and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching, Learning and Scholarship (2025).
Her academic roles include Acting Coordinator of Doctoral Programmes at UL and leadership in projects like the Human Trafficking and Exploitation Project (Island of Ireland). She has held postdoctoral positions at institutions such as Maynooth University and the European Social Survey.
Research interests include mixed-methods analysis of labor markets, social inequality, and policy interventions. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to poverty reduction and social justice. Notable awards include the 2019 Distinguished Article Prize from the Irish Journal of Sociology.
Publications highlight dynamics of contractual insecurity in EU labor markets, measurement of food poverty, and identification challenges in human trafficking cases. She actively collaborates on interdisciplinary projects addressing contemporary social issues.
