Amy Bejsovec is an Associate Professor of Biology at Duke University, affiliated with the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of pattern formation in developing embryos, particularly the Wingless (Wnt) signaling pathway in Drosophila. This pathway is critical for cell fate decisions during embryogenesis and is linked to cancer in adult tissues. She has held this position since 2000 and is also a member of the Duke Cancer Institute (2000–2015).
Education: Ph.D. (1988), M.S. (1985) in Genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; B.S. (1982) in Biology from Cornell University.
Research interests include Wnt signaling regulation, Drosophila epidermal development, and the role of signaling pathways in morphogenesis. She has authored numerous studies on Wingless/Wnt signaling mechanisms, including its interaction with transcription factors, cytoskeletal proteins, and metabolic pathways. Her work bridges developmental biology and cancer research, highlighting the pathway's dual role in embryogenesis and disease.
Grants include leadership roles in NIH and NSF-funded projects on Wnt signaling, genetic training programs, and developmental biology. Notable publications include a 2018 FlyBook chapter on Wingless signaling and studies on Gfat1/2, SoxNeuro, and cytokinesis proteins. She teaches courses on cancer genetics and research independent study.
