معرفی
Professor Arno Müller is a W3 Professor for Developmental Genetics at the University of Kassel, where he serves as Head of the Department of Developmental Genetics within the Faculty of Biology. He has held this position since October 2015, following a distinguished career that included roles as Associate Dean of Research and Deputy Head of the Division of Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of Dundee, UK.
Professor Müller received his doctorate from Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen in 1992, after completing doctoral studies at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology. His academic journey includes postdoctoral research at Princeton University and the Max Planck Institute, followed by faculty positions at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf before joining the University of Dundee and eventually the University of Kassel.
Professor Müller's research focuses on developmental genetics, particularly using Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) as a model organism to investigate fundamental processes of embryonic development. His work centers on:
- Genetic control of gastrulation and axis formation
- Cell polarity and epithelial morphogenesis
- Signal transduction pathways in development (particularly FGF signaling)
- Microtubule dynamics and cytoskeletal organization
- Protein regulation during embryonic development
Analysis of Professor Müller's recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on Drosophila developmental genetics, with particular focus on cell adhesion, cytoskeletal dynamics, and signaling pathways that govern embryonic morphogenesis. His laboratory employs advanced imaging techniques including light sheet microscopy, quantitative proteomics, and genetic approaches to investigate how cells coordinate their behaviors during development. A recurring theme in his work is the investigation of how genetic programs translate into physical changes in tissue architecture during embryogenesis.
Professor Müller has received several prestigious awards throughout his career:
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (2013)
- Senior Non-Clinical Research Fellowship from the Medical Research Council, UK (2006-2011)
- HFSP Short-Term Fellowship at Caltech (2000)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship from the German Research Foundation (1994-1997)
As Head of the Department of Developmental Genetics, Professor Müller leads a research group investigating the genetic and cellular mechanisms underlying embryonic development. His laboratory at the University of Kassel maintains strong international collaborations, particularly with researchers in the UK and Germany. The group utilizes the Drosophila model system to address fundamental questions about how genetic information is translated into three-dimensional form during development, with implications for understanding congenital disorders and tissue regeneration.
