Amina Silva, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at Brock University. Her clinical expertise spans critical care, oncology, kidney transplantation, and simulation-based education. She leads a research program investigating deceased organ donation, end-of-life care, cancer survivorship, and simulation education to improve healthcare practices. Her work integrates literature reviews, quantitative/qualitative methods, and participatory frameworks, yielding over 40 peer-reviewed publications and grants from organizations like INACSL and CAN-Sim.
Dr. Silva teaches Nursing Theory: Care of the Acutely Ill Client (courses NUSC 2P14 and 2P16). She actively mentors graduate students in organ donation, educational strategies, and cancer care. Undergraduate research opportunities are available in these areas. Professional affiliations include RNAO, INACSL, CDTRP, and CANO/ACIO.
Her research emphasizes practical interventions like simulation-based training, addressing systemic challenges in organ donation coordination and healthcare professional well-being. Recent studies focus on compassion fatigue among donation coordinators, virtual simulation feasibility, and ethical dimensions of organ donation post-MAiD.
