Amin Ghaziani is Professor of Sociology at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the University of California, Santa Barbara (on leave 2025-2026). He holds a Canada Research Chair in Urban Sexualities and serves as Co-Editor of Contexts Magazine and Deputy Editor of Mobilization.

His research focuses on urban sexualities, queer nightlife, cultural sociology, and gay neighborhoods, with a critical lens on identity fluidity, intersectional inequalities, and LGBTQ+ spatial practices. Recent work explores situational fluidity of identity labels (2025), renewal of queer nightlife post-bar closures (2024), and intersectional identity negotiation among Chinese LGBTQ+ migrants (2024).
Key awards include Lambda Literary Finalist, Killam Prizes, Canada Research Chair, and Best Article Awards from the American Sociological Association. His media engagements span The New Yorker, New York Times, and BBC Radio 4.
