Theodore Greene is Associate Professor and Chair of Sociology at Bowdoin College, specializing in gender, sexuality, and urban sociology. His research examines LGBTQ+ communities through urban redevelopment and cultural placemaking.
Research explores vicarious citizenship in gay neighborhoods, queer youth placemaking, and whiteness in urban spaces. Publications analyze community formation in Washington DC, Chicago, and Portland.
Awards include the Sydney B. Karofsky Prize and American Sociological Association recognition for scholarly contributions. Current projects include a book on gay neighborhoods (Columbia University Press) and research on Portland's queer geographies.
