Finaret's research focuses on the intersections of child nutrition, agriculture-health linkages, and food system economics. She advocates for equitable health metrics and critiques locally-specific growth curves that perpetuate racial bias. Her recent work examines how US foreign aid cuts threaten global nutrition programs and how economic tools can solve complex food system challenges.
Her textbook Food Economics: Agriculture, Nutrition, and Health provides a unified framework for teaching economic analysis of food systems. Recent articles address data quality in sub-Saharan Africa, vitamin A policy debates, and SNAP work requirements for families.
Finaret actively engages in digital advocacy through platforms like Bluesky (@afinaret.bsky.social), discussing food policy, climate-food connections, and scientific integrity in government. She participates in international collaborations with organizations like the ANH Academy and WorldPop Project.
