Amel Alghrani is a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Law and a full-time Professor of Law at the University of Liverpool’s School of Law and Social Justice. Her research focuses on health law, particularly the regulation of reproduction, assisted reproduction ethics, and the intersection of criminal and medical law. She has expanded her work to education law, addressing healthcare and educational rights for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Her research has informed UK policy through contributions to the Government Education Committee (2020), House of Lords Select Committee (2023), and the SEND Green Paper (2023). A NIHR-funded project on pandemic impacts on SEND children earned global recognition, including the Track Impact Award (2022) and North West Coast Innovation Award (2023).
Amel has received prestigious teaching awards, including the Guild Award for Lecturer of the Year (2015) and Faculty Teaching and Learning Award (2018). She actively engages in academic governance, serving on disciplinary and fitness-to-practise committees at Manchester and Liverpool Universities.
Her future work continues to bridge law, policy, and healthcare equity for vulnerable populations, with emphasis on SEND advocacy and criminal law’s role in medical ethics.
