Dr. Jennifer Sigafoos is a Reader in Law and Associate Head of Department at the University of Liverpool’s School of Law and Social Justice (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences). Her research focuses on access to justice, charity law, and socio-legal policy. She holds a DPhil from Oxford, a JD from UC Hastings College of Law, and an MSc. Previously, she served as Director of Public Policy at a major charity and is an inactive member of the California Bar.
- Current role: Director of the Charity Law and Policy Unit (2023-24).
- Key projects: Liverpool Access to Justice initiative; Charity Commission regulatory analysis.
Research Interests
Her work examines how marginalized groups access social welfare rights, charity law’s intersection with non-discrimination, and health justice implications of legal aid reforms. Recent projects include developing an e-referral tool for Liverpool’s advice sector and analyzing statutory inquiries into charity misconduct.
Grants & Collaborations
Lead investigator on AHRC-funded projects (2022–2026) and Leverhulme Trust grants (2013–2016). Collaborates with Citizens Advice Liverpool, Liverpool City Council, and researchers in public health.

Teaching
