Amber Marks

Amber Marks is a Lecturer in Criminal Law and Evidence and Co-Director of the Criminal Justice Centre at Queen Mary University of London's School of Law. A former barrister and civil servant, she is a Fellow of Advance HE and Scholar of Gray's Inn. Her work intersects science, law, literature, and philosophy, focusing on due process, autonomy, privacy, drug regulation, olfactory surveillance, forensic science, and criminal justice technology.

Her research examines human rights and personality rights frameworks within criminal justice systems, with notable contributions to drug policy reform including the award-winning Model Drug Law for West Africa presented at the Paris Peace Forum. Her publications analyze tensions between international drug conventions and human rights protections.

Publications consistently explore technological impacts on justice systems, ranging from olfactory surveillance to algorithmic decision-making and forensic evidence reliability. This includes critical analyses of drug detection dogs, crime control technologies, and quantitative evidence standards in legal proceedings.
