Amanda Watson is a Research Fellow in Public Health at the University of South Australia's School of Allied Health & Human Performance. She holds a PhD from Deakin University (2019), a Master of Public Health from the University of Adelaide (2013), and a Bachelor of Education from the University of South Australia (2005). Her primary affiliation is with UniSA's City East Campus where she serves as a Research Degree Supervisor.
Her research focuses on Indigenous child health, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children's ear health through an NHMRC-funded project investigating healthcare pathways and wellbeing impacts. She also studies seasonal variations in children's activity patterns and dietary habits between school terms and holidays. Her work combines epidemiological analysis with community-engaged approaches to develop culturally safe health interventions.
Watson's recent publications reveal strong emphasis on pediatric public health, with key themes including seasonal health behavior changes, Indigenous health equity, and community-based intervention design. Her methodology integrates mixed-methods research, longitudinal tracking, and participatory codesign approaches.
As a former primary school teacher at Singapore's Canadian International School (2010-2012) and research assistant at Dental Health Services Victoria (2014), she brings practical education and clinical experience to her academic work. Her current NHMRC projects demonstrate sustained focus on translating research into actionable health strategies for vulnerable child populations.
