Professor Amanda Scardamaglia is a Professor of Law at Swinburne University of Technology, affiliated with the School of Business, Law, and Entrepreneurship. Her expertise spans intellectual property law, particularly in trade mark law, branding, and historical legal studies. She holds a PhD in Law and an LLB (Hons) from The University of Melbourne. Her research emphasizes empirical and historical dimensions of trade mark law, with a focus on non-traditional trademarks and cross-cultural legal comparisons.
Key achievements include authoring Colonial Australian Trade Mark Law (2015) and Printed on Stone: The Lithographs of Charles Troedel (2020), the latter winning the Victorian Premier's History Award. She has held prestigious fellowships at the State Library of Victoria (2015-2016) and Bournemouth University's Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management (2017). She served as Dean of Swinburne Law School from 2022-2025 and is currently Chair of the Academic Senate at Swinburne University.
Her recent publications analyze historical trademark cases (Swedish Match Labels), non-English trademark registration challenges, and legal strategies in art through the lens of Banksy's trademark disputes.
