Amanda Clarke is an Assistant Professor in the School of Public Policy and Administration at Carleton University, a position she assumed in July 2014. Her research focuses on the intersection of information technologies, public management, and civic engagement, particularly examining the potential of social media, crowdsourcing, open data, and big data for public and third-sector organizations.
Her educational background includes:
- MA in International Affairs from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs
- Bachelor of Humanities from Carleton University's College of the Humanities
Dr. Clarke's research explores how the social web and related phenomena can enhance engagement between organizations and external stakeholders, and the necessary skills, partnerships, and governance structures. She investigates the implications for public administration and nonprofit leadership, emphasizing governance arrangements and accountability mechanisms required for effective external engagement.
She is a recipient of the prestigious Trudeau Foundation Scholarship (2010), which supported her doctoral research at the Oxford Internet Institute and enabled dissemination of findings to academic conferences, universities, governments, civil society groups, and international organizations.
Prior to her academic appointment, Dr. Clarke worked as an analyst for the Parliamentary Information and Research Service of Canada's Library of Parliament, providing research support to parliamentary committees and members.
