Alyssa H. Hasty

Alyssa H. Hasty, PhD is a Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and holds leadership roles as Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Career Development. She leads initiatives to enhance faculty development, recruitment, and retention while maintaining an active research program in immunometabolism and metabolic diseases.

Education:

• PhD in Pathology from Vanderbilt University
• Postdoctoral Fellowship at Tokyo University

Research Interests: Dr. Hasty is a leader in immunometabolism, investigating the interplay between immune cells (e.g., macrophages) and metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Her work focuses on iron homeostasis in adipose tissue, immune cell dysfunction in obesity, and mechanisms linking inflammation to metabolic dysfunction.

Grants & Funding: Her research has been continuously supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Veterans Affairs, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, and the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research.

Labs & Teams: She directs the Hasty Lab, which employs multiomics and translational approaches to study adipose tissue immunity and metabolic disease. Collaborations span immunology, cardiology, and endocrinology.
