Alyson Young is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human-Centered Computing at IUPUI. She holds a PhD from the Human-Centered Computing Program at UMBC, an MA in Media Studies from the University of Western Ontario, and an Honors BA in Communication Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University. Her research focuses on sociotechnical systems at the intersection of CSCW, Science and Technology Studies, and Infrastructure Studies, examining how data sharing practices and scientific infrastructures shape multidisciplinary scientific collaboration.
Her work explores topics ranging from patient-reported outcome measures in healthcare to digital activism strategies among marginalized communities. She has published extensively on sociotechnical challenges in interdisciplinary science, including studies on data reuse, infrastructural constraints in scientific practices, and online health communities.
Key research themes include analyzing the role of technology in enabling scientific collaboration, evaluating usability in collaborative virtual environments, and investigating privacy behaviors in social media platforms. Her recent projects emphasize inclusive design in healthcare measurement tools and the sociotechnical agency of underrepresented groups in digital spaces.
