Aly Erfan

Aly Erfan is a Professor in the Department of Public Policy and Administration at the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP), The American University in Cairo (AUC). He serves as director of the Masters of Global Affairs Program, co-managing editor of the Cairo Review of Global Affairs, and editor of the Policy Briefs Series at GAPP. Additionally, he supervises the Syria Reader and Jerusalem Timeline, which chronicle key documents related to the Syria crises and the struggle over Jerusalem.

  • 30-year career in Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the League of Arab States
  • Chef de Cabinet and Political Advisor to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (2011–2016)
  • Member of Egyptian and Arab League delegations to UN General Assembly, Security Council, and NPT Review Conferences

Research and Editorial Contributions: Erfan's expertise spans Middle East peace processes, regional crises, arms control, Arab-Israeli affairs, Arab-American/EU relations, and UN affairs. He actively contributes to policy analysis through the GAPP quarterly periodical and Policy Briefs Series, focusing on conflict resolution and peacebuilding in the Middle East.
