Almut Zieher, Ph.D., is an Associate Research Scientist at the Education Collaboratory within the Yale Child Study Center, Yale School of Medicine. She holds appointments in the Child Study Center and collaborates with the Cipriano Lab. Her research focuses on teacher well-being, social and emotional learning (SEL), and mindfulness-based interventions in educational settings. Dr. Zieher earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, M.A. in Special Education, and B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of New Mexico.
Her research interests include developing tools to measure SEL implementation (e.g., SELOC, OAMM) and understanding how pedagogical approaches affect teacher and student outcomes. She has conducted studies on mindfulness training for pre-service teachers and evaluated SEL programs during the pandemic. Her work emphasizes bridging theory and practice to improve educational systems.
Key projects include the Social and Emotional Learning Observational Checklist (SELOC) and the Objective Awareness and Mindfulness Measure (OAMM), funded by grants such as IES and Mind and Life PEACE. She collaborates with institutions like the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and contributes to meta-analyses assessing SEL program efficacy.
Zieher’s publications span frameworks for SEL pedagogy, teacher mindfulness interventions, and systemic impacts of SEL programs.
