Allyson Larkin is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Social Justice and Peace Studies at Western University. Her research focuses on international experiential learning, decolonizing North-South higher education partnerships, and ethical global citizenship education. She holds a PhD in Education, Gender, and Social Justice from Western University, alongside degrees in Urban Education, History, and Latin American Studies.
Her teaching spans courses on global justice frameworks, qualitative research methods, and experiential learning in Guatemala, Tanzania, Kenya, and the Dominican Republic. Key research areas include postcolonial theories, feminist approaches to education, and the ethics of international development partnerships.
Larkin’s work critiques power dynamics in global education collaborations, advocating for equitable South-North knowledge exchange. Her publications analyze challenges in international service-learning, Ubuntu philosophy in education, and decolonial methodologies. She actively collaborates with East African communities, examining how global partnerships impact local development agendas.
Her recent research explores global citizenship education’s limitations, fair trade learning frameworks, and the role of Canadian universities in global equity initiatives. Larkin’s interdisciplinary focus bridges education policy, critical theory, and community-engaged research.
