Allyson Dawkins is an Associate Professor in the Department of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio, affiliated with the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. She serves as Principal Violist of the San Antonio Philharmonic and holds multiple roles in music education, including private teaching, quartet coaching, and directing the Castleman Quartet Program’s student activities.
Education:
- B.F.A. in Music from State University of New York at Purchase (1975)
- M.M. in Music and Performer's Certificate from Eastman School of Music (1979)
Her research and professional focus centers on viola pedagogy, string instrument instruction, and chamber music training. Recent publications include a transcription of Josephine Trott’s Melodious Double-Stops Book II for viola, emphasizing technical and historical approaches to music education.
Scientific Awards:
- Youth Orchestras of San Antonio Private Teacher of the Year Award (2023)
Dawkins actively mentors students through civic initiatives like the San Antonio Philharmonic Caroling Project, which engages musicians in community outreach to hospitals, correctional institutions, and shelters.
