Allison Hui is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Lancaster University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). She serves as the FASS Director of Marketing and Recruitment, integrating educational leadership with interdisciplinary research. Her work focuses on social practices, decolonizing methodologies, and mobilities studies, emphasizing transformative methodologies and spatial/temporal dynamics.
Dr. Hui teaches Media and Cultural Studies modules and supervises PhD students exploring themes like practice theory, consumption patterns, and decolonial methodologies. She co-edited The Nexus of Practices and co-curates the Practice Theory Methodologies blog. Key research projects include the DEMAND Centre (2013–2019) and ongoing work on mobilities and sustainability.
Her research groups include CeMoRe (Centre for Mobilities Research) and the Migrancy Research Group. Notable contributions include analyzing electric vehicle discourses, migration mobilities, and interdisciplinary energy demand frameworks. She actively engages in public sociology through podcasts and policy dialogues.
