Dr. Kumud Rana is a Lecturer in Sociology (Gender and Decolonisation) at Lancaster University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). They specialise in intersectional research at the nexus of decoloniality, queerness, and indigeneity, with a focus on Nepal. Current teaching includes convening courses on Gender Studies, Feminism and Social Change, and Gender, Sex and Bodies.
Research interests encompass queer indigeneity, decolonial methodologies, and transnational LGBTQ+ activism in Nepal. Active projects include studies on Tharu Jhumra Nach performances, #MeToo movements in Nepali academia, and the role of transnational resources in Nepali LGBTI+ organising. Awards include the BNAC PhD Dissertation Prize 2021.
Engagement spans academic and public spheres, including peer-review roles for Feminist Review, Citizenship Studies, and Journal of Gender Studies; committee memberships with the Britain Nepal Academic Council; and public talks on queer anthropology and decolonial creative practices.
