Alison Tracy Hale is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Puget Sound. Her primary scholarly focus lies in early American literatures, with specialized interests in the American gothic, the early novel, pedagogical practices, and the cultural dynamics of the Early Republic.

Research Interests: Explore the intersections of gender, religion, and pedagogy in early American texts, alongside gothic traditions and socio-political narratives of the Early Republic. Her current projects include the academic monograph Pedagogical Citizenship and the Early American Woman and a young adult novel set during the Salem witchcraft trials.
Publications highlight analyses of paternity in 19th-century American evangelical fiction (Saving the World: Girlhood and Evangelicalism in 19th-century America) and the multifaceted roles of early American women in literary history (Early American Literature).
